Ouch

Jeepers but New York is expensive.  I’ve been digging at housing and it’s staggering.  The best scenario I can estimate at this point is a small one bedroom apartment with an hour and a half round-trip commute for $1,000/month.  Minus rent and student loans, the top pay at the synagogue job would leave me with about $1,000 a month to live on.  And in New York City, that’s not much money!  And all of that with a 9.5 hour work day counting the commute.  Ugh.

This has got me seriously considering shifting tracks.  If there was any way to find a job in a much smaller town, I think I’d rather put 2/3 of that money into a small house somewhere that’s a 15 minute commute.  I guess I’ll just have to see what turns up.
