Maybe ministry after all

Wednesday, May 31st, 2006

I’ve just discovered an interesting possibility called The New Seminary. It’s an interfaith ministerial program in New York. From the research I’ve done so far, they seem pretty legit. I like their approach to ministry, too. But New York is a long way from Chicago and I’m really excited about my application to the Theosophical Society. The New Seminary has a correspondence track I could do from there, but I feel like ministry is something that I really need to learn in person. So, I don’t know how or when that might happen, but it’s very appealing to me. I don’t even know what I would do with it after I finished, but I know I really want to be a minister.

Before and after

Depending on when you saw me last, one of these pictures might be surprising…

At last… a job lead!

Friday, May 26th, 2006

I’ve just found my first major job lead. It turns out the Theosophical Society is in need of a head computer person. I’m pretty well qualified for the position and it’s the sort of jack-of-all-trades work that I like doing best. Theosophy is a little on the fringe, but they seem to be remarkably aligned with my own spiritual beliefs and goals. The pay isn’t the best, but it looks like a great opportunity to blend my passions: technology and spirituality.

The intimidating part is that the job is in Chicago. I don’t have anything holding me here, but that’s a damn long way away from either Burlington or Morristown. And I don’t know a soul there (well, I do actually know one, but that’s another story). So it would be a huge, scary undertaking. But it could also be quite an adventure. I suppose I’ll send a resume and see what happens…

Graduation

Wednesday, May 17th, 2006

Whew!  That was quite a weekend.  Tons of family and friends (mostly Trese’s), non-stop activities, and that little bit where I walked across the stage.  I graduated!  Woohoo!  I now possess an accredited bachelor of arts degree.  And I’m entirely exhausted.  But I’m very happy.

Now, I just need a job.  :)

College… done.

Friday, May 5th, 2006

Well, it turns out that the last version of my degree project was accepted (though the afore-mentioned drama did indeed result in one rather harsh evaluation, bleh) and I just turned in the last of my evaluations.  I am now officially done with college.  The only thing I have left is to get another cap (apparently I am not included in “one size fits most”) and then wait 8 days, 0 hours, 25 minutes, and 37 seconds for graduation.
